Pushing The Boundaries...

3km Swim + 80km Cycle + 20km Run

For the first time in Ireland, TriAthy will host a DOUBLE OLYMPIC race. Given that TriAthy is so early in the season, the Double Olympic race is a perfect build-up race for those building towards Ironman distances.

The Double Olympic swim will take place in the River Barrow. A little under half the distance will be against the current, though the gentle flow of the River in summer should make this a relatively easy prospect. Transition is nestled in Emily Square close to the swim exit and the cycle course is on closed, flat roads. The run course is equally fast, with practically no hills and an alignment that follows the course of the river.

The final route of the Double Olympic race will be published in March 2011.

The DOUBLE OLYMPIC race takes place on Saturday 4th June for Women and Men.

A Tough Personal Challenge

1.5km Swim + 40k Cycle + 10km Run

TriAthy Olympic is Irelands Fastest, Flattest Olympic Distance race. If you have been trying to beat a PB, or if you are trying to break the elusive 2 hours time, then TriAthy Olympic is engineered just for you. The swim is in the gentle waters of the River Barrow, the cycle course is on closed, flat roads perfect for chasing both your rival and your new PB. The run course is equally fast, with practically no hills and an alignment that follows the course of the river. The compact transition area sits neatly between all three sections, minimising your T1 and T2 splits.

The TriAthy Team are currently assessing a revised Cycle course and Run course in 2011. The final course details will be published in March 2011.

Please note:

The OLYMPIC race takes place on Saturday 4th June for Women and Men.

Flat and Fast

750m Swim + 20km Cycle + 5km Run

TriAthy Sprint begins on the west side of the River Barrow near SuperValu. The Sprint Swim Section is in the gently flowing waters of the River Barrow, ensuring that everyone enjoys the opportunity of swimming a great first leg. As your friends and supporters watch from the picturesque surrounds of Crom-a-boo Bridge and White Castle, you will swim upriver for approximately 250m and then u-turn downstream for the remaining 500m before landing onto a specially constructed exit ramp leading to floating jetties at the Athy Courthouse – just metres from transition.

On the other side of transition the Sprint Cycle Course begins, taking you by the Athy Heritage Centre and towards Carlow on the flat R417. The Cycle Course is an 'out-and-back' route - 10km out to a townland called Maganey, and 10km back to the TriAthy transition. The entire cycle route follows close to River Barrow, and with just 20m deviation in altitude along the entire route, you will be able to push hard on Ireland’s flattest tri-section - especially since the road will be closed to normal vehicular traffic (application pending from the local authority). On your return to the TriAthy transition at the Athy Courthouse, disembark your bike and proceed through transition back towards the Riverbank where your 5km run takes you along the River Barrow towpath. Our friendly marshals will be positioned on the day to keep you on track. Once the second mini-loop is complete you head back towards the finishline and the triathlon supporters near the Athy Courthouse and transition.

The SPRINT race takes place on Sunday 5th June for Women and Men.

The Perfect Introduction to Triathlon

400m Swim + 13.6km Cycle + 3.6km Run

TRY Athy is the PEFECT race for triathlon newbies! While the "Battle of the Barrow" will be fought amongst the OLYMPIAN and SPRINT events, TRY-Athy is a more friendly, non-competitive event for those who want a more manageable first triathlon experience. While this race is no walk-over by any means, we believe it will be a fairer test for those who have donned their trisuits for the first time!

The swim section will be 100% downstream for 400m in the River Barrow (ie. no nasty currents to worry about) while the cycle section will largely follow the same 'out and back' course as the SPRINT and OLYMPIC races save for an earlier turnaround point at Levitstown. Finally the run section will introduce you to the lovely River Barrow walkway that runs south of Athy before the big finish near transition at Emily Square.

The TRYAthy race takes place on Saturday 4th June for Women and Men.
