Fingal County Council Win Top Honour at Chambers Ireland’s Excellence in Local Government Awards 2010
Athy Town Council Named Town/Borough Council of the Year
Fingal County Council has been named County/City Council of the Year 2010 at Chambers Ireland’s 7th Annual Excellence in Local Government Awards which were held in Dublin last night (28/10/10). The Awards were held in association with the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government.
Congratulating Fingal County Council, Ian Talbot, Chambers Ireland Chief Executive said, “Fingal County Council was recognised for its innovative efforts to enhance both the quality of life for all of Fingal’s residents while also consistently working in partnership with business as a stakeholder. I would also like to extend my congratulations to Athy Town Council who was named Town/Borough Council of the Year Award and all of tonight’s category winners.”
“As one of the main partners in local government countrywide, the Chamber network recognises and appreciates the daily work of local authorities on behalf of us all. We acknowledge that local government faces unprecedented funding challenges while also needing to control costs and budgets many of which are beyond their control and are driven by decisions taken centrally and from Government budgetary allocations.”
Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, John Gormley T.D. continued, “Once again I am delighted that my Department is associated with Chambers Ireland's Excellence in Local Government Awards, which highlights best practice among local authorities, thus enabling a diffusion of excellence.”
The event was supported by An Post, CB Richard Ellis, Corrib Natural Gas, ESB Networks, and Zurich. Awards were also sponsored by AECOM, Brief Council Ltd, Fáilte Ireland, Optic Nerve Design and Peninsula Business Services.
