At the AGM of Athy Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday 6th March, Conor Winkle was selected as the Chambers new President. Speaking to the meeting following his selection Mr Winkle acknowledged the challenges facing businesses in the town and outlined some of the issues which the chamber would begin working on straight away. First on the agenda was pay parking which all present felt needed to be changed so that it could be used to help entice shoppers back into the town.
A lively discussion followed during which members of the business community put forward issues and ideas which they felt the chamber should work on over the coming year.
Guest chairperson for the evening Cllr. Richard Daly said that the business people of Athy needed strong representation and hoped that the AGM would mark a turning point for the chamber which had been in decline in recent years.
The chamber intends to hold regular meetings for business people in the town over the next year and business people are urged to contact the new President via the chamber website if they are interested in taking part and to ensure that the chamber has their up to date contact details.
